CLASSIFIED AREAS
In areas where dangerous amounts and concentrations of flammable vapors or gases may occur, protective measures must be applied in order to reduce the risk of explosions.
ABNT NBR-IEC 60079-10 refers to the classification of areas where the presence of flammable gases or vapors or dangerous mists may occur and can be used as a basis for the adequate selection and installation of equipment for use in classified areas.
This Standard is intended to be applied where there is a risk of ignition due to the presence of flammable gas or vapor mixed with air, under normal atmospheric conditions.
ZONE 0
Place where the occurrence of flammable/explosive mixture by gases or vapors is continuous or exists for long periods.
ZONE 1
It is a place where an explosive atmosphere is occasionally present and under normal operating conditions, normally generated by sources of primary risk.
ZONE 2
It is a place where the explosive atmosphere is present only under abnormal operating conditions and persists only for short periods of time, being generated normally by sources of risk of secondary degree.
ZONE 20
It is a place where the explosive atmosphere, in the form of a cloud of dust, is permanently present, for long periods or even frequently.
ZONE 21
It is a place where the explosive atmosphere in the form of a cloud of dust is occasionally present, under normal operating conditions of the unit.
ZONE 22
It is a place where the explosive atmosphere in the form of a cloud of dust will only exist under abnormal operating conditions and if it exists it will only be for a short period of time.
